Mayor Apking was elected in November of 2003 and took office December 1, 2003. Prior to this term he was Mayor from 1987 to 1999 and a Councilman several terms before that. By Village Charter the Mayor serves as the Chief Executive Officer and Conservator of the Peace for the Village. The Mayor is the Chief Administrative Officer for the Village and is the head of all Village Departments. Along with these duties the Mayor presides over all Village Council Meetings. The Mayor only votes on an ordinance or other matter before Council in the event of a tie vote.
Retired from Proctor and Gamble in 1994 Don J. Apking has been married to Sue since 1959. They have been Evendale residents for over 40 years and have two daughters, Micki and Beth.
The Mayor and Administration Department are responsible for overseeing all Village Departments, payroll, annual budget, accounts payable/receivable and other projects as come up from time to time. Jack Cameron is the Administrative Assistant to the Mayor for the daily functions and management issues that the Mayor is responsible to coordinate.
