Preparedness Guides and Links

Due to recent natural disasters and a “shelter-in-place” declaration by the City of Cincinnati for a chemical release, the following are some recommended guidelines put together by Hamilton County Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help citizens prepare for these types of events. In the event of an emergency turn on your television and radio and listen for Emergency Alert System (EAS) information, instructions, and updates.

Listed below are links and forms designed to help you plan for your family’s safety.  Each link or form is listed in capital letters with a brief description of its content.  To access any of these items, click on the underlined subject; it will either redirect you to a website or open an Adobe (PDF) or Microsoft word file.  Please be patient because some of these documents are large and will take several minutes to open, depending on your internet speed.

Current local public emergency information and emergency action procedures may be found in Cincinnati Bell white pages, June 2005-2006 edition, pages 38-41.

“Are You Ready?” is an in-depth guide to citizen preparedness.  It is FEMA's most comprehensive source on individual, family, and community preparedness. “Are You Ready?” provides a step-by-step approach to disaster preparedness by walking the reader through how to get informed about local emergency plans, how to identify hazards that effect their local area, and how to develop and maintain an emergency communications plan and disaster supplies kit. Other topics covered include evacuation, emergency public shelters, animals in disaster, and information specific to people with disabilities. “Are You Ready?” also provides in-depth information on specific hazards including what to do before, during, and after each hazard type.

Visit the link section of the fire department’s website for additional links to various websites that contain information on emergency preparedness.  Any questions, contact the fire department at 513.563.2248.
