Frequently Asked Questions

I receive a bad check?

First, always take ID and write the numbers on the check – a driver’s license number should be written like this:

Number/state/year or expiration… for example:  RN123456/oh/97…

If the person doesn’t have a driver’s license, a social security number and date of birth work just as well.  Remember, without ID, you don’t know who is giving you the check, and the collection may be impossible if the check is returned.  Ask for several pieces of ID from a person without standard forms of identification (i.e., driver’s license, State of Ohio ID, etc.).

Second, once the check has been returned by the bank, send a certified letter to the name of the accountholder advising that the check has been returned and advise them that if the check and the incurred banking charges are not paid within 10 days, or any other agreed upon time, that you intend to press charges for Passing Bad Checks.

If the letter is returned and/or payment is not made, contact the Evendale Police Department and file a bad check report.

I need a copy of a police report?

You will need to provide as much information as possible to enable us to find the report (i.e., the names of parties involved, location of occurrence, date of occurrence, etc.)  The more information we have, the faster we will be able to locate the requested report.

To obtain a copy of a police report you may phone in your request. (513-563-2249). If you have access to a fax machine, we can fax a copy of the report to you; otherwise, we will mail the report to your address.  You may also stop by the station in person to request a copy. Regardless, it is best if make your request between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. when our clerical staff is able to assist you.  A written request may be sent to the Evendale Police Department, 10500 Reading Road, Evendale, Ohio 45241.

I receive a threatening/obscene phone call?

Record the date, time, and nature of the call.  For example:  01/01/99, 2:30 am, hang-up, 01/01/99, 3:00 am, heavy breathing, etc.

Contact Evendale Police and file a report.

Contact the Cincinnati Bell Annoyance Call Bureau at 397-7366 and advise them of the problem and that a police report has been filed.

You must file a police report prior to initiating the tracing process.  We will fax a copy of the police report to Cincinnati Bell if you request a trace.

Making threatening, obscene, or annoying calls is a criminal offense!  Don’t be frightened or threatened by a crank caller!  Take action to stop these calls by cooperating with Cincinnati Bell and your police department to apprehend and prosecute these callers.

I have problems with noise/barking dogs?

We always suggest that with neighbor difficulties, you first try to resolve the problem yourself.  Often, if the police are called on a minor disturbance, it creates hostile feelings between the parties and can lead to further problems.  However, if the other party is unreasonable and refuses your request to quiet his animal or keep the noise down, call the police at 563-2249 and report the problem.  We will do our best to settle the matter.

What hours are you open?

The Police Department is open 24 hours, 365 days a year.  Clerical staff is on duty from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  After 11:30 p.m., weekends and holidays, you can pick-up the white telephone in the lobby and an officer will be dispatched to assist you.

How can I pay for my ticket?

You can pay your citation by mail, telephone or in person.

What happens if I did not show proof of insurance at the time of the traffic stop/auto accident?

If you have been involved in an auto accident, you should try to have proof of insurance filed with the Police Department within 24 hours.  If you are either paying a citation or appearing in court, you should bring proof to show at that time.  If you do not, your information will be forwarded to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles for immediate driver’s license suspension.

If I have been involved in an auto accident, why is it important for me to appear in court?

It is important to appear in court if you were involved in an auto accident that could result in civil liability.  A plea of “no contest” in Mayor’s Court cannot be used against you in civil proceedings.

I lost my ticket.  How can I pay it?

If you lose your traffic citation we can look you up in the database and have you sign a duplicate copy of the back of the citation.

What forms of payment does the Court/Traffic Violations Bureau Accept?

Accepted forms of payment are as follows: cash, personal checks, certified checks, money orders and credit cards (Visa & Mastercard only)

How do I get to the police department/court?

From 1-75 take the Evendale Exit 14 (NB exit 14 & SB exit 14 Evendale).  You will exit eastbound onto Glendale-Milford Rd., go to Reading Road and turn left.  Take the 1st main entrance driveway on your right (10500 Reading Road), go to the stop sign, turn left and park in the lot on the left.

From I-71 take the Pfeiffer Road exit and proceed westbound on Pfeiffer Road.  Pfeiffer Road becomes Glendale-Milford Road.  Take Glendale-Milford Road to Reading Road and turn right.  Take the 1st main entrance driveway on your right (10500 Reading Road), go to the stop sign, turn left and park in the lot on the left.

From I-275 take the Reading Road/Sharonville exit and proceed south.  Go approximately 3 to 4 miles and Evendale Municipal Complex is on the left (10500 Reading Road).  Once inside the complex go to the stop sign, turn left and park in the lot on the left.

How do I get a continuance?

The police department can grant 1 continuance.  You must appear at the Police Department in person to sign a continuance form.  NOTE:  If you live out of state and want a continuance, we can fax the proper document to you. Any additional continuances must be requested in person in Evendale Mayor’s Court.

How does the court process work?

Your 1st appearance in Evendale Mayor’s Court is the arraignment.  If you enter a plea of “guilty” or “no contest”, your case can be heard that evening.  If you enter a plea of “not guilty”, your case will be continued in order to notify the Police Officer and any witnesses to appear for trial.

What are the pleas and what do they mean?

“Guilty” simply means you are admitting guilt to the charge; “No Contest” means that while you admit some of the facts could lead toward your guilt, you would like a chance to explain the circumstances; and “Not Guilty” means that you feel you were not guilty of the charge and you would like a trial so the Magistrate can hear from all parties involved and make a decision based on the testimony.

If I get a “Notification of Warrant” letter, what does that mean?

If you fail to either pay a citation by 4:00 p.m. on the assigned court date or appear in court that evening at 7:30 p.m., you will receive a “Notification of Warrant” letter.  A warrant is issued that evening, however this letter is to remind you that you have failed to either pay or appear.  You will be given the opportunity to pay the citation, be recited to appear and, on some occasions, you may have to post a cash bond.

If I receive a warrant letter and driver’s license suspension, what does that mean?

This is the 2nd letter you will receive after you fail to pay a citation or appear in Evendale Mayor’s Court.  This letter is to let you know the warrant has been entered and your driver’s license has been suspended.  You will either have to turn yourself in to be recited, post a bond or may be able to pay the citation in full.  Once a citation reaches warrant status, the amount due increases.  That amount will be included in the warrant letter.  NOTE:  Once your driver’s license has been suspended, you will have to pay a reinstatement fee and you may notice an increase in insurance premiums.

How do I get my license back after I have taken care of the warrant?

You will be given reinstatement paperwork that will need to be taken to the Southwest Reinstatement Center, 10948 Hamilton Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio  45231, Phone: (513)742-7535.  Office Hours:  Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  A reinstatement fee will be due at the time you visit their office.  A Deputy Registrar and Driver’s License Examination Station are conveniently located within the center.
