ROBBERY
On 8/ 2 Evendale Police responded to Fifth Third Bank reference a robbery. Upon arrival, it was learned that the suspect had passed a note to a teller demanding $7,000 and communicated that he had a gun. The suspect was given an undetermined amount of money, and fled the scene in an unknown make/model vehicle. At this time, a Woodlawn officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Glendale-Milford Rd. He stopped the vehicle for a traffic violation, however, when he heard the robbery broadcast, he realized that the subject driving the vehicle matched the description of the bank robber. As a result, James R. Shepard was identified by bank employees and gave a full confession to the robbery. All funds were recovered, and no one was injured. Shepard was charged with robbery and transported to the Hamilton County Justice
Center.
MURDER
Evendale units were dispatched to A Lucky Step Furniture Shop regarding shots fired. Upon arrival, Stephen Jones was found in the showroom of the business. He had been shot several times. Per witnesses, the suspect had left on foot, heading toward Exon Drive. Within 15 minutes the suspect was located near the intersection of Exon Dr. and Reading Rd. The suspect was positively identified as the shooter by Jones’ brother who witnessed the attack. Alonzo Campbell was charged with murder and transported to the Hamilton County Justice Center. The case investigation continues.
DEFRAUDING A LIVERY/ HOSTELRY
The owner of Central Tool Rental reported that a male subject rented a Bobcat and Jack Hammer attachment. The subject failed to return the property on the agreed upon date, incurring a debt of $783.82. As a result, theft charges were filed against Anthony W. Crutchfield, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Keith A. Heaton rented a transmission jack from Central Tool and failed to return it at the agreed upon date. The equipment was eventually returned by Heaton’s brother-in-law, but the rental fee of $454.74 was unpaid. A certified letter requesting payment was sent to Heaton’s last known address, however, no attempt was made to take care of the payment due. As a result, Central Tool has filed theft charges against Keith A. Heaton. Detective Lantry continues to work on the case. Central Tool Rental filed charges against
Daryl J. Burke for failing to return a 150,000 BTU Torpedo heater which had been rented in February. An employee responded to Burke’s place of business and retrieved the heater, however, Burke failed to pay the rental fee of $434.04. On 8/7 Burke turned himself in and was cited to Hamilton County Municipal Court.
DRUG ABUSE
Evendale Police were tipped off that one of Cincinnati’s “Most Wanted” was working at Burger King in Evendale. The subject had several outstanding felony warrants. Officers Shope and Vonderhaar, along with Detective Lantry, responded to Burger King and took Willis Pearson into custody. Upon his arrest, Pearson had a small amount of marijuana in his pocket. Subsequently, Willis Pearson was charged with Drug Abuse by Evendale Police and released to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office on the felony warrants. At approximatey 10:00 p.m. on 8/26, Officer Holloway observed a vehicle parked in the lot of Landmark Baptist Church. The occupants of the vehicle stated that they were there to meet someone. The registered owner of the vehicle was wanted by Sharonville P.D., and a search of the vehicle revealed a small plastic
bag containing approximately 1 gram of marijuana. Stephen J. Lewetch was charged with drug abuse and then released to Sharonville Police.
THEFT
Swifty Gas Station reported that an individual pumped $7.08 worth of gas and drove away without paying for same. No investigative leads were available, and the case was suspended inactive. An employee of St. Rita School for the Deaf reported that her purse was stolen from the office area of the school. Numerous people were in the office area, but not all were known by the complainant. No further information was available, and the case was suspended inactive. An employee of General Electric (Continued from page 1) reported that unknown person(s) smashed out the driver’s side rear window and took a black nylon case containing 60 CD’s. Also taken was the subject’s wallet which contained $150 in US currency and a Jeanie Card. The complainant was advised to cancel the Jeanie Card, and the case remains under investigation.
Officer McDaniel was dispatched to Hardee’s and met with the manager who advised that $150 was missing from one of the cash registers. Six employees had access to the cash, and the manager provided a list of those persons along with personal information. She was advised that interviews would be conducted with the six employees, and the case investigation continues. Detectives Lantry and Goller met with management from the Serta Matress Company reference a theft. A truck driver for JB Hunt, who is under contract with Serta, informed his supervisor that a Serta employee was stealing from the company. He also stated that a JB Hunt driver was involved in the theft.. Investigation into the case continues. Blue Ash Police Department contacted a resident of Giverny Blvd. reference recovery of her mail from a motel room in their city. At that time, the complainant was unaware their mail was missing, and assured Blue Ash Police that no one had permission to get her mail. Officer
Babcock has been in contact with Blue Ash Police and the complainants, and the investigation continues.
LOST/STOLEN PROPERTY
A complainant reported that his cellular phone was lost/stolen from his business on Evendale Drive. The phone was valued at $230. The serial number was obtained, and the information was entered into RCIC. Pending further information, the case was suspended inactive. An employee of Mike Albert Leasing came to the station to report 50 license plates lost or stolen as a result of an audit by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. All plates were entered into RCIC, and the case was suspended inactive.
BREAKING & ENTERING
Cincinnati Freezer reported that unknown person(s) entered the employee break room and locker room and stole eight freezer suits from the business. The freezer suits were relatively new and had a total value of approximately $2000. There was no damage to indicate forced entry. The complainant will view the security tape to see if it reveals any investigative information. The case remains under investigation. Macke Bros. reported that unknown person(s) entered their facility by going over the roof, into an internal courtyard area, and through an unlocked door. After entering the facility, the suspects went into the break room area and pryed open one food vending machine. They then dragged the coin machine over to the break room doorway where they took a forklift and took it to the back of the facility and ran the forklift into it,
forcing it open. Investigative Lt. Goller processed the scene and took photos. The case remains under investigation.
