FROM THE MAYOR:
Let me take this opportunity to thank the Planning Commission for their time and hard work during the past two months. They have been working diligently with Anchor Properties to plan a project that will conform to Evendale standards and insure a first class development that we will all be proud of. Thank you.
Please remember that Rumpke will be picking up the garbage early on July 4th due to the Annual July 4th Run. If you are scheduled to have your trash collected on July 4th please have your cans out by 4:00 am.
Summer is a very exciting and busy time in the Village and just to name a few things going on there is the swim team and swimming programs, the sports, the tennis teams and lessons, the Recreation programs, shelter house use, and the Founders Pavilion Concerts. There is a concert every Saturday evening in the summer at the Pavilion and they are planned for different age groups. Consult your refrigerator magnet announcement and come down to enjoy instrumental and choral groups and bring your neighbors and friends. Don't miss these great summer evenings.
Our thanks to the Service Department, the Beautification Committee and the Gardner's Group for making and keeping the Village so beautiful this summer. I am continually hearing positive comments from people who pass through the Village. The new planting of wildflowers in The Griffin Preserve on Wyscarver Road is especially pretty. Make sure you get out to visit the Griffin Family Nature Preserve. Many thanks to all those who keep the Village looking good.

FROM THE FIRE DEPARTMENT:
Monthly Safety Tip
Summer has officially begun, and once again fireworks stands are popping up along the roads. That can only mean one thing: The 4th of July is approaching!
Families are making plans to have parties, cookouts and enjoy the nations birthday. They are also making plans to attend wonderful firework displays. This is just a reminder that shooting fireworks in the State of Ohio is illegal unless you are a state licensed fireworks operator.
The only allowable fireworks to be used in the state are sparklers, trick noisemakers & novelties.
All other fireworks sold to Ohio residents must be removed from the state within 48 hours of purchase and non-Ohio residents have 72 hours to remove them.
If you plan to use the allowable fireworks, here are some safety tips to follow:
Never allow children to ignite fireworks.
Don't take for granted that sparklers are safe. Sparklers can reach 1800F!
Buy from a licensed dealer; ask to see their license.
Have a bucket of water close for any emergencies.
Light only one firework at a time.
Over 11,000 people are injured each year from fireworks. Let the professionals have all the displays just enjoy their shows.

Fitness Member of the Month
Tom Hauser has been chosen, and voted for by many, as our July Member of the Month. Tom is 73 ½ years old and began exercising in 1968 when he was told he had high blood pressure. His doctor put him on a walking program and gave him Cooper's book on aerobic exercise. From that point, great things began to happen. Tom was able to control his heart rate and blood pressure and he began to feel much better. Now, he says he can't live without his exercise routine. When he finishes working out he feels loose, relaxed and less stressed out. He believes that working out keeps you from feeling sorry for yourself and that only you are in control of your health. He feels that people should focus on aerobics and the utilization of oxygen as much as possible. Feeling good, being able to play
golf and a sense of independence is what motivates Tom to stay in shape. His recommendation to beginners is to start slow when initiating an exercise routine. To make your workouts more enjoyable, he recommends finding a workout partner. Make this person someone who will stick with you, motivate you and is willing to build a friendly competition. If you need motivation, come on down when Tom is here burning up our elliptical trainer. He is always willing to help his fellow fitness members with their workouts. Join us in congratulating Tom as our member of the month.
