Who can be on swim team?
Our swim team is open to any Evendale child with a current membership, who feels comfortable in the water. If by the end of early bird registration and the team does not have 190 Evendale resident children registered, we allow five “business pool” members to sign up their children. There are nine swim meets each summer (4-5 are held in Evendale). Parents are required to work at three meets and help at one special event. If a child cannot make a meet, parents can sign them out. Parents are not required to purchase a team swim suit; but many children have them.
When does baseball season start?
Sign-ups for spring sports start in December, with practices beginning the first part of April and games beginning the last week of April. At an early practice, the team will come in and pick up their uniforms (pants, shirt, stockings – which are returned – a cap is also included and kept by the player). We only supply the catcher’s glove; all other positions require the child to bring their ownglove. Metal spikes are not allowed to be worn for safety reason; children should wear all purpose sports cleats. Not all games are on Saturdays. All parents are asked to coach when they sign up their child; but being a coach is not required. Once the final decision is made about a coach, that person will call the players regarding when practices will be held.
What about youth soccer?
We have a spring soccer season and a fall soccer season. Sign-ups for spring sports begin in December, with practices beginning the first part of April and games beginning the last week of April. Fall registration begins early May, with practices starting in around Labor Day. All parents are asked to coach when they sign up their child; but being a coach is not required. Once the final decision is made about a coach, that person will call the players regarding when practices will be held. At an early practice, the team will come in and pick up their uniforms. U-5 level players purchase their team t-shirts.
Games can happen during the weeknights; but are usually on Saturday or Sunday. Practices are held during the workweek. By league rules, children must sigh up in their appropriate age level. If we have enough kids for two teams, a blind draw is held to divide the teams. Soccer shoes are recommended but not required. Shin-guards are required. The children do play in the rain, unless there is lightening and thunder.
Do you have a Junior Tennis program?
Yes, we have both lessons for kids and Junior Leagues. Classes are limited; but we make every effort to accommodate all who wish to participate. Tennis lessons start the first part of June and end approximately the middle of August. We register children based on age; however, experience and skill could mean a child moves up a level. Private lessons are also available from our tennis coaches. Parents just need to call the Recreation Center and leave a voice mail message for the instructor. The instructor will call you back to schedule the lesson.
The Junior Tennis League is for levels 16 & under, 14 & under, and 12 & under. They have home meets as well as away. For the away matches, carpooling may be necessary if the department van is not available. Practices vary from season to season so watch the tennis court bulletin board and this website for updates.
Do you have an Adult Tennis Program?
We have one of the best programs, per capita, in the area. Because of the strength of the program, tennis court reservations are strongly recommended during between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend. Ladies League matches are Fridays while practices are held during the work week. Ladies must have a rating of 3.0 or higher. Do you have summer camps?
Fun In The Sun, our summer fun camp, usually begins the week after Princeton City Schools lets out for the summer. Camp runs Monday through Thursday. Children ages 3 – 6 (we call them Sunbeams) meet 9:30am – 11:00am; while children ages 7 – 12 (called FunShines) meet 11:15am – 4:00pm. Funshines should bring a sack lunch & drink with them each day. Campers should wear shorts/pants, t-shirts, and gym shoes (preferably no sandals – we do a lot of playing). Camp ends about the last week of July, leaving time for the family to get away for a family vacation. If you want to take a vacation during the Fun In The Sun season, no problem, we’ll see you back at camp when you get back from family vacation. If we and your children have parental consent, Funshine campers can even sign themselves out; but once they
leave they cannot “sign back in.” Parents can sign their child out early any time they wish. Parents can even authorize someone else to sign their child out; but we must have prior authorization from the parent.
Sumbeams are grouped by age, and enjoy “ themed weeks” of games, music, arts & crafts, and more. Funshines enjoy specialized classes, sport camps, group games, movings, ares & crafts, swimming every Monday and Wednesday (weather permitting, so bring your swimsuit, sunscreen and towel). Detailed calendars are availble starting the first week of the program. Funshine campers can sign up for Fabulous Friday Field Trips. In the past, these trips have included roller or in-line skating, cosmic bowling, a movie at a theater, lasertag, and a trip to the Beach Waterpark. There is an additional fee for these field trips. A pool party for everyone in the Fun In The Sun program, as well as their family members, the tennis program participants, and swim team members is held in late July to close the camp season.
In August, we offer four days of special events for the Funshines. These “Overtime” dates start at 11:15am and end between 4:00 - 4:30pm. Two dates are usually field trips while two are events held here on the grounds. Each year it is something new, but Overtime has included a Red’s Baseball Game, the Cincinnati Zoo, Wacky Olympics, and “What A Mess.” Each fun filled date requires pre-registration and a small fee.
Can my child only take the sport camps and Fabulous Friday Trips during the summer?
Yes, a child does not have to be in Fun In The Sun to participate in these events. A fee is required for each sport or trip.

The Department will issue a Temporary ID pass (es), and PRM can have his/her/their photos taken at this time. Payment is required for all requested memberships and, if photo taken, ID card (s.) I am a resident, but I don’t know how to rent an amenity (i.e., shelter house, community room). What is the procedure?
The shelter house can be rented up to six months in advance and is rented on a first-come, first-serve basis. To rent the shelter: 1) come to the Recreation Center, confirm the date is available; 2)if it is, just fill out the application, pay the fee, and you are all set.

If your requested date and room are available, then the application is routed to staff who verify room availibilty, a facility attendant, no programs are plan, etc. Once staff has reviewed your application, you will be contacted with either the approval or denial of the application. If your request is approved, the rental fee is due. The room deposit fee and a room set up sheet will be due one week before your event.
An alcohol permit is on the application, and the recreation department forwarsd a copy of the permit to the police department, a renter completes this section of the application.
Is alcohol allowed at the Shelter House?
You are allowed to have alcohol at the shelter house; but the alcohol permit must be completed prior to your event.
