In this course, we'll dive right in to experimenting with Oil Paints and Cold Wax Medium, which mix together to create a luscious surface that can be textured using a variety of tools. You’ll learn to layer, scrape back, and collage your oil and cold wax pieces on wood panels, multimedia board and oil paper. You'll learn to use solvents and inclusions to add unusual and unexpected effects. You'll be encouraged to design and doodle works of fine, archival quality abstract art that are uniquely yours in a fun atmosphere using this playful medium where there are no mistakes!   All levels welcome. This course is great for beginners who would like to explore painting for the first time, or more advanced artists who would like to try cold wax medium.

*All supplies provided. Please wear clothing and shoes that you're not worried about getting paint on.

Barbara Davin is an artist from a family of artists, born and raised in New York City. She attended the High School of Art and Design, City-As-School, and SUNY at Stony Brook, majoring in Fine Art.  Being more of a hands-on person, she considers her experiences at various internships and apprenticeships over three decades to be the best part of her art education. Skills she learned in non-classroom settings include sculpture, glass blowing, sandblasting, neon, holography, darkroom photography, jewelry design, pottery, fiber art, weaving and puppet making. She works out of her studio at the Arts Center at Dunham in Cincinnati, where her current focus is oil painting and mixed media art.
