Jan Boone has been holding an artist’s paint brush in her hand since her childhood on a farm in northwest Ohio. After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Miami University in 1975, she began a career with Cincinnati’s Gibson Greetings Company, where she served for some twenty years in varied capacities. In recent years, her reputation and success as an oil painter emerging, she has had an opportunity to train with prominent area and national artists. Jan Boone is a sought after teacher and lecturer, and enjoys associations with local art organizations.
Color, composition, and storytelling are all a part of her work. Tranquility and serenity, even humor, reflect from the canvas to the viewer – sometimes in contrast to the fairly bright color strokes. The result is a softened realism that may be serene – or sparked with wry humor! Her painting style also has been described as painterly realism, a style where mood and character are more important than detailed realism. Many of her images carry a narrative, often reflected in the work’s title.
Jan Boone has won numerous awards and been accepted in juried exhibits in regional and national competitions. Jan’s work has won numerous awards in competitions held by the Mason Art Association and the Woman’s Art Club of Cincinnati, as well as being accepted in juried shows at the Fitton Center in Butler County, and the Cincinnati Art Club. Jan Boone served as President of the Women’s Art Club of Cincinnati. She is a Signature Member of the Cincinnati Art Club, the second oldest art club in the country.
