Dedication of the Lance Corporal Christopher J. Dyer Memorial Highway

Evendale Veterans Police and Fire Memorial There will be a brief ceremony to honor Lance Corporal Chris Dyer, a young Marine from Evendale who was killed in action in Iraq in 2005. State Senator Lou Terhar passed legislation naming the two miles of I-75 that run through the Village the Lance Corporal Chris Dyer Memorial Highway.  He will present a replica of the highway sign to the Dyer  family. We will also honor Lt. Godfrey Miller, a 93 year old resident of the Village and a Tuskegee airman; one of the legendary African-American pilots of WW II era who broke the color barrier of the Air Force.  They flew 15,553 sorties over North Africa, Sicily and Europe. A Flight Chief of the Red Tails, Leslie Edward Sr. also age 93 will address the gathering. Special musical performance by the 35th Indiana Irish Pipes & Drums Regiment. One of the largest pipe and drums bands in the Midwest, the 35th Regiment has been in existence since the Civil War. Immediately following the presentation Evendale Police will escort a motorcade caravan to the unveiling of the sign at the interstate 75 / Evendale exit
