What about youth soccer?

We have a spring soccer season and a fall soccer season. Sign-ups for spring sports begin in December, with practices beginning the first part of April and games beginning the last week of April. Fall registration begins early May, with practices starting in August and games start one week before Labor Day. All parents are asked to coach when they sign up their child; but being a coach is not required. Once the final decision is made about a coach, that person will call the players regarding when practices will be held. All volunteer coaches arfe background checked and must take NYSCA online training program.

U-5 level players purchase their team t-shirts. Pee Wee level plays only on Wednesdays and Dribblers only play on Saturday mornings. Dribblers will have one practice during the week selected by the coach.

By league rules, children must sigh up in their appropriate age level. If we have enough kids for two teams, a blind draw is held to divide the teams. Soccer shoes are recommended but not required. The department has a cleat exchange program. Shin-guardsare required. The children do play in the rain, unless there is lightening and thunder.

When do games start?   Fall play begins the Saturday either side of Labor Day; while spring starts mid-April

What times are games?  Weeknights at 6:00 pm. or 6:30 pm.; Saturday & Sunday times vary

How long are practices?  1 to 1½ hours

Can my child play on the same team as his friends?  No guarantees. If we have more than one team, the league does a draw.

Do soccer teams play in the rain?  Yes, but not lightening. If the lightening prediction system is active, you will see a flashing light on top of the Recreation Center. Remain safe in your call or come into the Recreation Center if it is open. Once the system detects the area is safe, it will sound three short (about fives seconds each) horn blasts and the light will go out.  If the horn blasts one long sound (about fifteen seconds long), then lightening is or is possible in the area and you should leave the field returning to your car or go into the Recreation Center.

Where are the games played?  All homes games are at the Evendale Complex

Do I have to buy my child soccer shoes?  Strongly recommended, but not required. The Recreation Center does have a bin of used soccer shoes; and you are welcome to come in and take a pair that fits your child.  Kids grow faster than a soccer show can sometimes where out, so we started this program; which means if you buy a pair and next year you need to get a new pair, we have the place for you to pass along last year’s pair and maybe get that larger size.  This is great for the first time players also if you are not sure they will want to play on in future years.

How do I know what position my child should play?  Coach will work with child to determine.

Does my child need shin-guards?  YES.

Can my child play on both soccer and baseball teams?  Yes, but it is usually difficult to keep up both practice schedules and both game schedules.

What about uniforms?  All levels except U-5 (Instructional) where our green & black uniforms. U-5 level kids buy a team-color t-shirt from the Recreation Center.
