Mayor Richard H. Finan

Mayor Richard H. Finan was re-elected as Mayor of the Village of Evendale in 2015.  Mayor Finan is thrilled to back serving the community that he  loves and has raised his family.  Mayor Finan served as the president of the Ohio Senate from 1997-2003.  He was elected to the Ohio House of Representative in 1973 and the Ohio Senate in 1978.

Mayor Finan currently serves as the director of Ohio Cemetery Foundation; Rest Haven Cemetery Association and the Warren County Arts and Culture Center.  He is the co-chairman of the Trust for Democracy and the Government Cooperation and Efficiency Project and Hamilton County Planning Partners.  Mayor Finan is on the board of directors of CET Public Television, Cincinnati Observatory Center, Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame, Capitol Square Foundation and The National Conference of State Legislatures Foundation.  He is also a member of multiple organizations and committees, including Cincinnati Bar Association; Sharonville, Reading, Hamilton County and Sycamore Township Republican clubs.

Mayor Finan served as president of the National Conference of state Legislatures in 1997 and continues to be active in that organization as well as the Council of State Governments.  Senator Finan was a member of the board of trustees of the University of Dayton for more than twenty-seven years, having served as chair of this board for a portion of his tenure.

His past associations include Ohio Republican Senate Campaign Committee, chair; Union Central Life Insurance Board; Downtown Knights of Columbus Luncheon Club, president; Cincinnati Chapter of University of Dayton National Alumni Association, president; St. Rita School for the Deaf, trustee; Southwestern Ohio Catholic Social Services.

In addition to other numerous honors throughout his career, Mayor Finan has been named Legislator of the Year for; Ohio Trial lawyers Association, 1975; Township Clerks &Trustees Association, 1976; Ohio Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors, 1996; and Association of Builders and Contractors, 2002.  He was named on of Columbus Monthly magazine’s Five Best Legislators in 1982, 1986, 1988.  In 2009, he was inducted into the Association of Ohio Commodores by Governor Strickland for his work in economic development.

Mayor Finan was also the recipient of the William M. Bulger Award of Excellence in State Legislative Leadership from the Nation Conference of State Legislatures.  Mayor Finan served in the U.S. Army from 1954 through 1956 in the G-2 Intelligence Division and was the appointed civilian aide to the secretary of the army for Ohio from 2001 through 2003.  He was awarded an honorary degree from Xavier University in 2000 and joined the government relations and legislation group of Calfee, Halter & Griswold LLP in 2003.

The Mayor and Administration Department are responsible for overseeing all Village Departments, payroll, annual budget, accounts payable/ receivable and other projects as come up from time to time.
