Ohio's Financial Responsibility Law

If you are charged with a traffic offense that requires a court appearance, you must bring to court with you proof of financial liability (a valid insurance policy) to show you had liability insurance on the date of the offense.

NOTE: Insurance must be for the vehicle driven at the time of the offense. If you do not bring proof of your financial responsibility as of the date of the offense the Bureau of Motor Vehicles will suspend your operator’s license.
